Community Relations

E-mail

Brierty recognises building positive relationships in communities is fundamental to our success.

Our activities have the potential to impact on local residents, businesses and other stakeholders and it is important community needs and concerns are addressed. The Brierty team seeks to learn and understand local issues, facilitate communication
with community members and provide timely project information.

Where applicable, project specific Community Relations Plans are developed to:

  • Comply with contractual and legislative requirements;

  • Anticipate and mitigate construction/mining impacts;

  • Provide for the dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders; and

  • Encourage feedback and respond appropriately and timely to community concerns.

The Company seeks to contribute to the communities in which it works by locally sourcing project personnel, materials and services, to the fullest extent possible.

Case Study | Great Eastern Highway Upgrade

A glowing example of success is the ALine East Alliance for the upgrade of the Great Eastern Highway from Tammin to Walgoolan.

Members of the A-Line East alliance, that includes Main Roads, Brierty Contractors, designers BGE and WML consultants, have put their heads together to come up with the best outcome for local communities affected by the upgrade.

Main Roads Project Director Norm Fox states that “commonly what happens during a project is that the public doesn’t engage until the works actually start rolling out. With our traditional method that would be too late as the documents are fully designed.”

But Mr Fox says with an alliance, the community is consulted while the works are happening.

We are able to incorporate their ideas more easily and make better use of their ideas,” he says.

Mr Fox says admits that while there is a degree of scepticism about alliance contracting, with fears private contractors will have a hard money approach and only consider their own interests, alliance contracting is proving to be a big winner for everyone.

The ALine East team really has adopted best for project decision making and has strived to find the very best solutions for the community.”
