Civil and mining contractor Brierty Limited (ASX: BYL) and the Ngarluma Yindjibarndi Foundational Ltd (NYFL) are very pleased to announce that they have entered into a joint venture to be known as the Brierty NYFL Joint Venture.

The joint venture is to pursue Urban Infrastructure works, which includes subdivisions, on land in the Pilbara area of Western Australia, where the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people are the traditional owners.

The joint venture complements NYFL's current joint venture to pursue heavy civil engineering projects with NRW.

Brierty Managing Director Peter McBain said, "This joint venture reflects Brierty's commitment to being an industry leader in aboriginal engagement. We are proud to have 11% of our workforce as indigenous Australians."

"The agreement with the traditional owners of the Karratha and Roebourne area where we have a number of projects is important to us, in that it should allow us to consolidate our recent achievements with aboriginal engagement and provide positive outcomes for local people."

NYFL CEO Evan Maloney spoke of the widening opportunities for local Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people, not only in the local work force but also potentially as owner-operators of equipment used in these urban infrastructure works. He added: "Slowly but surely our people are grasping these opportunities and not just in an operational sense. We have others keen to get involved in administration and management. These JVs help us drive these issues."
