The Fiona Stanley Hospital is a $1.76B project driven by the State Government. The 643 bed hospital will provide comprehensive health care services to communities south of Perth and across WA.

Brierty was contracted to complete Stage A – Site Clearing and Bulk Earthworks in readiness for the start of construction of the main hospital buildings.

Works for the hospital included:

  • Clearing and bulk earthworks over 18 hectares
  • 330,000m3 cut to fill / cut to disposal
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Roadworks
  • Drainage
  • Sewer works

The clearing and earthworks project required strict environmental management due to the presence of dieback and conservation areas.

The project required a high level of engagement with the local community and stakeholders, in particular representatives from St John of God Hospital and the local indigenous groups. Brierty worked closely with tribal elders to effectively manage indigenous sensitivities.    Concerns regarding traffic, noise and dust management were easily handled by the project team using Brierty’s project specific management plans.

To maximise the utilisation of material, Brierty moved 150,000bcm of excavated material 22km to Brookdale Estate, a residential estate which required clean fill.

The project was completed within time period and was LTI free.
