The Cloudbreak mining operation represents the initial phase of Fortescue’s iron ore mining activities. The mine and ore processing facilities are located in the east Pilbara region of Western Australia, 150km north of Newman. The access road for Cloudbreak mine is via Marble Bar-Newman Road and north of the Roy Hill Station homestead.
Brierty was the incumbent mining contractor at the Cloudbreak Iron Ore Project for Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) located 250km south of Port Hedland, works on the project commenced in September 2008. The mine is located in a remote region and a fly in fly out workforce of over 100 personnel were utilised on site.
The works completed by Brierty includes:
- Overburden movement;
- Selective ore and waste mining; and
- The fleet used included 3 x 180-200T excavators, 12 x 90t haul trucks and complementing auxiliary fleet.
